Keywords selection is a technique to choose keywords for your product or services while considering what people use to search for related product or services using various search engines most likely Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Commonly people prefer to choose keywords which have more competition and traffic as it sounds appealing to them as they think their website and business will grow in rapidly. But the fact is, it will take more time due to high competition and traffic.
Let me describe competition and traffic for better understanding. Traffic refers to the number of people who search for a specific keyword each day, While Competition refers to the number of other sites trying to rank well for that specific keyword. So, it’s gone be much time taking and competitive if you are going to chose these keywords.
Knowing your Business / website first
For most fruitful keywords selection it’s vital to understand your business and website first. Ask following questions to yourself:
- What you want from your website? Brand Recognition or Making Sale?
- What is your target market? Regional or Worldwide.
- Do you want more traffic only? Or more Targeted traffic?
- Set first 3 months realistic goals for your website.
Once you have answers to above you will have more clearer picture of your keywords, so let’s proceed to analyze them further.
Analyze Keywords for Selection
Use Google trends to choose Website keywords.
Google Trends is a public web facility of Google Inc., based on Google Search that shows how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages. So it’s quite important to know before selection of the keywords to target specific area, what people use to search for a specific product or services in that region in that particular amount of time as Google trends may vary from time to time.
Use Long tail Keywords instead of generic keywords.
Generic keywords are commonly used keywords which may have more traffic and competition while long tail keywords may have less competition and traffic but it require less time to rank them higher instead of Generic keywords. So long tail keywords will drive some traffic to your website in a very short period of time instead you wait for generic keywords to come on top rankings to send more traffic after a very long period and efforts.
Also now a day’s people are choosy and clearer in their search that’s why they use proper search terms and keywords to get most relevant results to their desires.
Select right keywords for your website or product.
Sometimes you choose wrong keywords for your website as you think they’ll generate more traffic but they don’t even match to your website nature or what you’re offering on the website. So it’s quite important to select most relevant keywords for more and consistent traffic.
These are few things which may really help in keyword selection for better SEO results and more traffic in quick time.
